Indie Olive Studio is a boutique letterpress design studio located in Lawrence, KS. We specialize in letterpress printing and custom design for weddings, special events and small business. Here at Indie Olive we view each piece of stationery as tiny works of art; hand crafted and sometimes printed on hundred year old equipment. We strive to incorporate vintage elegance with a modern attitude in every invitation, announcement, and business card. While also working to achieve a sustainable earth friendly product whenever possible, using the finest tree free papers. With the old-fashioned techniques of yester-year and the design styles and materials of today, work with us to create the perfect communiqué for your event.
The studio is owned and operated by me, Virginia Merritt. I have always had a passion for all things stationery and vintage. As the daughter of an artistic mother and grand-daughter to a hostess-minded grandmother, I’ve always jumped at any opportunity to create handmade items for all occasions. As the special events in my life went from school dances to weddings I began creating paperie items for friends and family. Months following my own wedding, fate would introduce me to Sophie, our 1928 Chandler and Price letterpress. Although I had dabbled in printmaking while at the University of Kansas I had never met a piece of equipment quite like the platen press. Shortly after, my free time was spent restoring Sophie, researching the technique and equipment, and long drives to acquire more parts and pieces. I’ve met several people along the way who’ve expressed the same passion for this kind of work and with the support of my husband decided to start Indie Olive Studio in 2008. Now my love for design and letterpress have joined to create stationery for all of life’s most memorable events.
