Katie & Joe: Married!

Danforth Chapel, Kansas University Campus

This year has brought us many rainy wedding days, and Katie & Joe’s big day was no exception. We made our way to Lawrence to meet up with Katie and the girls at Images Salon to capture some final touches of hair and makeup, and the skies were dark and gloomy. By the time we got to the chapel that afternoon, however, the rain had cleared, the sun came out, and we had the most beautiful blue skies to show off in our photos! We loved every minute of this wedding, and we are SO thrilled to be sharing it with you! But before we get started I must give a shout out to the amazingly talented and very dedicated wedding coordinator Kelli Szrot from Red Door Event and Design! She is hands down one of the best coordinators we’ve ever worked with, and she worked so hard to bring this dream wedding to life!

After hair and makeup at the salon, the girls enjoyed a nice quiet lunch at home. This has got to be one of the sweetest groups of girls we’ve ever worked with! We love the quiet and calm presence they had as they prepared for the day, and LOVE the sweet moment we caught as Katie gave her mom a gift.

The guys did all of their preparing at the Eldridge Hotel. They may not have hair and makeup to do, but a tux is not always easy to put together… well, at least the part where you have to get those pocket squares just right. We’ve decided we better study up on pocket squares, and tying ties before our next wedding! 🙂

How beautiful is the light in this bride’s room at Danforth Chapel? Ugh, and how much do you love Katie’s dress?! Seriously, SO beautiful! She got this amazing Marisa gown from Bridal Extraordinaire.

As we exited the chapel after the ceremony, we could hear music… live music! Surprise! It was a mariachi band! Katie’s mom arranged to have them playing outside the chapel for their big exit as a surprise gift to Katie! She grew up in south Texas, so this was a fun way to bring a little bit of “home” to the wedding! Oh yeah, and remember those beautiful blue skies we mentioned? Here they come!

Katie and Joe had a breathtakingly beautiful reception at the Eldridge Hotel in downtown Lawrence. This is where Katie’s parents first met, so there was a lot of personal significance and love in this venue for them! Let’s talk about the setup with the long tables… so elegant! We also loved the vintage plates at the place settings provided by the Vintage Plate Company of Kansas City!! And the cake was done by the fabulous Desiree of Bella Roca Cakes!

There are no words to describe the toasts given for this wonderful bride and groom. We truly love getting to know our couples before the wedding day, and it is SO fun getting to hear their closest friends and family tell stories about them and give heartfelt speeches about their best qualities and the way they’ve touched others lives. As Katie and Joe’s friends and family stepped up and spoke about them, you can bet there were tears rolling behind my camera from both laughter and emotion!
