‘Tis the Season… of engagements! {Kansas City Area Wedding Photographers}

It seems the holiday season is the most popular time of year to pop the question. And I have to say, one of my favorite things about meeting with couples is hearing their proposal story. More often than not the story somehow involves the girl getting upset with the guy or wondering why in the world he is acting crazy and making unusual requests! Melissa shared a little bit about her engagement last week, so I thought this would be the perfect time to share my engagement story with you!

Jason popped the question in early October. I knew he was going to propose sometime, but had no idea it would be that soon. Jason and I met at Manhattan Christian College and we lived only  a couple blocks from each other. It was Tuesday morning and I had decided to skip one of my classes… yes I did that from time to time. Jason happened to be out of class that morning too, and he called me up to see what I was doing. He asked if I wanted to meet and go for a walk at City Park. This wasn’t out of the ordinary since the park was just down the street and we went there all the time. So I head out and as I’m walking down the street towards the park I notice Jason walking towards me with his laptop… really? Why does someone just carry a laptop to go on a walk around the park? My first question, of course, was why the laptop? He made up some excuse that I don’t remember now, but I remember thinking it was really weird.

So we walked to the park and to one of our favorite spots- the outdoor amphitheater. I knew something was up when we sat down and he opened his laptop telling me he made something that he wanted me to watch. Then I watched the coolest video I’ve ever seen- filled with photos of us and some pretty sweet things he had to say. The video ended with this across the screen… “So…” and Jason got down on one knee and pulled this out of his pocket…

This ring means so much to me, not only because it’s my wedding ring, but because the center stone actually came from Jason’s mom’s original wedding ring. She happened to get a new ring for an anniversary, and it meant so much that she passed her ring on to Jason to use for me. I hope one day to be able to do the same for our son and turn this stone into a ring that he can use for someone he loves.

To everyone getting engaged this holiday season- Congrats! And come see us at the Engaged Bridal Show at Union Station in January! We’ll post more details soon!
