Telling the Story of Your Wedding {Melissa & Beth ~ Kansas City Wedding Photographers}
Guest Blogger: Kyle Bloom (Videographer)!
Not everyone chooses to tell their wedding story through video, and if you are one of those people, this guy just might change your mind.
It’s no lie that after photographing so many weddings and working with so many other vendors, I’ve grown to have several favorites that I love referring our couples to! Today’s guest blogger quickly became one of my favorites! I worked along side Kyle Bloom at a beautiful June wedding. He is easy going (a trait that can be extremely valuable in the midst of wedding stresses) and so great with the camera! I am excited to introduce you all to Kyle, and for you to hear what he has to say on choosing a videographer for your wedding!
Ladies and Gentlemen… Kyle Bloom!
I think we can all agree- wedding days can be really hectic. So many things are happening in so many places and all at the same time that it’s impossible to remember everything. In the moment you think it will be burned into your memory forever but as time goes on, the little details start to fade. The beauty of having a videographer document your wedding day is that so many of these memories are captured- even the ones that happened when you weren’t around! As the years pass by, you can still relive your wedding day again and again.
When choosing a someone to film your wedding, here are a couple good questions to ask to make sure you get the best possible memories back.
1. How many cameras will you be using to record? I typically use 3 or 4 at a variety of angles to be sure to capture every thing that happens during the ceremony. your videographer doesn’t have to use that many but you should look for at least 2 cameras to be recording during the ceremony.
2. How will you record the audio? If you have a great looking video but can’t hear what’s being said, you’ll end up being really disappointed. Be sure your videographer has a way of capturing what’s being said during the ceremony- especially the vows. I typically attach a wireless mic to the groom that goes directly into the camera to capture what he and the bride are saying. It’s small enough that it doesn’t show up in pictures and captures all the little moments between the bride and groom.
3. What will I get when you’re finished with the video? There’s a lot of options here- from getting just the ceremony to getting the whole day start to finish. Most of the weddings I film end up with the ceremony, a 4-5 minute highlight of the whole day, and the reception highlights. If I’ve been asked to create a picture slideshow, I’ll include that as well. You might not want all of that but be sure to communicate exactly what you’d like to have after it’s all said and done.
Hope that gives you some insight on choosing your wedding videographer. Be sure to choose someone that can tell your story well and capture the most important parts of your big day. One of the most recent weddings I’ve filmed is shown here: http://vimeo.com/35060178. If you’re interested in having me document your wedding, please contact me at kylebloom@gmail.com.
