Today we welcome Guest Blogger ~ Leslie Dohrn ~ from Van Brock jewelers.  Leslie is one of my oldest and dearest friends.  In fact…I have known Leslie since the day she was born.  Our moms are the best of friends…and we spent most of our childhood years together…and now as adults not many days go by without a text, call, email or visit about what is happening in our lives.  Leslie sold my husband my wedding ring…she is SOOO good…that he didn’t even see it first…he just called her…asked her what I wanted (I may or may not have already been in playing in the rings) and said “Ok…get it ready I will come and get it”!!  Of course it is perfect…and of course that is how most gifts work with Ernie…but I don’t mind…he does good!! 🙂 Ok…enough babble from me…lets see what Leslie has to say!! 🙂

Celebrating Life’s Moments

Throughout my twelve joyful years in the jewelry industry, I have come to the pleasant realization that the reason I love my career is because it is actually a celebration industry.  Every client who walks through the door is there to celebrate a significant moment in their life.  Whether it is the commencement of an enchanting marriage, miraculous birth of a baby, recognition of a job promotion or merriment of an anniversary–there is always a time to celebrate.

Jewelry allows a woman to be a storyteller while portraying individual style and self expression.  My love for jewelry began at the age of 16, when I was gifted a pendant by my grandmother.  Wrapped in yellow gold, was the diamond given to her by my late grandfather in an engagement ring.  That diamond not only reminds me of my grandmother and her admiration for jewelry, but the love my grandparents shared for one another.  My pearl studs are reminiscent of my late great aunt who embodied style, grace and the kindest heart I have ever known.  I also adorn a locket around my neck, which holds a photo of my dear and sweet late father.  I love sharing memories of him and it helps remind me to live my life in his honor every moment of the day. Jewelry is the tangible expression of something much greater.  Living with and celebrating the memories we create are what treasured heirlooms are made of.

An exorbitant example of someone who lived life surrounded by what they loved is Elizabeth Taylor.  Her collection of statement jewelry recently went up for sale to the public and as stated by Christie’s Auction House, her collection contained:

A LIFETIME OF GLAMOUR AND GREAT MOMENTS REFLECTED IN AN ICONIC COLLECTION OF DIAMONDS, PEARLS, GEMSTONES,
HISTORIC JEWELS AND STORIED GIFTS.”

Elizabeth celebrated her life with personal mementos and treasured gifts which will touch the lives of many generations to follow.

I have had the opportunity to meet a number of fascinating people throughout my career, as well as view some captivating gemstones and important pieces of jewelry.  However, my biggest career accomplishment came just recently when I joined the gracious and knowledgeable team at VanBrock in Leawood, Kansas.  VanBrock is a private jeweler where we welcome you to shop by appointment in a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere.  Kim, Debbie, Lenise and I invite you to the suite for an opportunity to view a gallery of fine jewelry.  Please contact me at Leslie@VanBrockJewels.com or 913.223.5115 to make an appointment.  It is truly our pleasure to celebrate life’s moments with you.
